I am married with two children; one has left home (yay!) and the other is a teenager who I am unsure if he will ever leave home unless I can get a deal on a 40FT HC container that he can convert! Lucky for me, I am in the right industry! I love a bit of competition and playing lawn bowls. I know, competition and lawn bowls are in the same sentence! 18 years of competitive indoor cricket has honed my sledging skills, but I am not sure if these will be appropriate at the bowling club… yet. When I am not on the bowling green, I spend my time with my long-suffering wife and can often be found behind a drum kit, a bass guitar, or a microphone on a Sunday morning.
I get to wear two hats in my role, which is Transport & Sales. This is great for me as I get to combine my 25+ years of transport/fleet management knowledge along with my 30+ years of sales and customer service together. In addition to this, you will find me loading and unloading containers on or off our transport partners in our Napier depot and occasionally making a reasonable cup of coffee or tea. There may or may not be a biscuit supplied with these, but I can guarantee that I will not have baked it, unless you like small windowless buildings!

Born and bred in Hawke’s Bay, I am a fun-loving mum to two beautiful demanding teenagers and a helper to many. The container industry has been my life for the past 15+ years with my husband Willie, owning the business since 2009. When I am not pressing keys on the computer for A1, you are likely to find me pressing keys on my piano or my face in a fictional novel escaping from motherhood. I am also partial to a quiz night at the local pub with friends or a sneaky wine tasting at some of our local Hawke’s Bay wineries.
I am pretty good at hot coffee runs to keep our staff refueled. I love helping our customers, no question is a silly one and I will go the extra mile to help with all those tricky jobs. Behind the scenes, you will usually find me proofreading emails and tying up loose ends in the office.
Looking after the business financials is my number one focus, along with supporting Willie with the business and assisting the team with day-to-day matters. Having spent 15 years in the industry, I enjoy helping our customers and can assure you any member of our team can provide you with their combined knowledge and friendly service.
A descendant from Ancient Greece, I somehow ended up in West Auckland on the family dairy farm. Some people refer to me as the Hairy Greek, but I prefer to be known as the cool dude, Shaneo, or anything really, I am not easily offended, and you can always buy my friendship with a Magnum ice cream. After years of racing cars, motorbikes and running my own automotive business in Auckland, I moved to Tauranga with my wife and daughter and jumped at the job with A1 Containers.
I get to work out in the yard all day, repairing, welding, cleaning, grinding, looking after all the lease containers that come back into the yard for re-hire, and making sure the new containers are good to go for sale. It’s a great job, outside in the sun and tinkering away in the workshop is definitely my happy place.
If you’re buying a shipping container, I’ll be getting your container down from the stack and making sure that the one you ordered and paid for is the one you get delivered to your site. I’ll be liaising with the team to make sure everything is in order and good to go for whatever you may need in your container purchase or hire. I am the crazy South African lady in the office that drives everyone up the wall. I love to entertain people and have a good wine or something stronger now and then. Keeping me busy outside of work are my three daughters and five mischievous doggies. You can find me outside in the garden as my biggest love besides my husband is rare NZ plants. I spend a lot of my spare time propagating and looking after my own collection and tending to my garden.
Looking after all things financial from accounts payable, receivable through to hiring, de-hiring and giving a helping hand to the sales team, I am across it all! If you are one of our hire fleet customers, then it is very likely you will hear from me on more than one occasion. With more than 15 years of experience in the Shipping Container industry, no question or requirement is too hard to handle, my knowledge gives me the ability to assist you with any of your container questions you may have.

Growing up in Central Otago as a teenager, working on local stations, my love was to be a shepherd, but I somehow ended up back in the North Island driving trucks at the age of 18. Transport seemed to be the new career path for me, so I went on to manage a transport depot in Hastings, to managing a rental and lease fleet of heavy vehicles in Hawke’s Bay. Meeting Heidi, a local Napier girl, we married and had two great kids (now teenagers). Taking a leap of faith in 2010, Heidi and I sold our home in Napier and moved the family to Tauranga. We had made the decision to invest every last cent we had into ourselves and brought A1 Containers in Tauranga. In 2018, we moved back home to Napier and opened our second Head Office Depot in Prebensen Drive. Nowadays, my flock of containers doesn’t seem to move about as the Merinos do and the tractors don’t look like tractors should, the hills are nonexistent but as you will see on social media, I still find my way to the mountains to spook the odd deer.
Jack of all trades, but a master of none. I spend most of my working days wondering where the day went. We have a fantastic team at A1 Containers who allow me to look busy while they are doing all the great work. A1 Containers is my family and my focus. You will see me at both our head offices, Napier & Tauranga splitting my time between both branches. We have built the business on excellent customer service and high-quality containers for every client buying a shipping container.
I work away in the background, working on the business and assisting the team. With many hats to wear, my two key focuses are one, the team, and that they have the tools, information, and a fun environment to help our customers to the best of their ability. Secondly, the procurement of quality containers.
We pride ourselves on over grading our containers making sure what we sell is graded correctly and the best available. Finding these containers in this industry is a real challenge. I put a lot of pressure back on our suppliers to honour what they are selling to us, so we can have the best containers available for our customers.
